What is the point of the Gold Bars in Super Paper Mario?
Do I need them for anything special? I keep finding them but I don't know if i should drop them or not (and hold power ups)
Commodity trading. Gold Bars can be sold at shops for coins (I think they may also be called for in a few obscure recipes, but that's entirely beside the point unless you're a hardcore completionist.)
The trick to Gold Bars is that different shops buy them at different prices. You can sell them anywhere for coins, but you'll get the most coins at the shop partway through 1-2, and a slightly lower rate at the shop at the beginning of 5-1.
Both of these shops buy at high enough prices that you can purchase Gold Bars at their regular prices at other shops (typically 100 coins for a Gold Bar and 300 coins for a Gold Bar x3) and make a decent profit. By repeating this task, you can earn virtually limitless coins, and then buy anything and everything you ever wanted.
